Belarus' BRSM Youth Union elects delegates to Belarusian People's Congress

The BRSM Youth Union elected 140 delegates to the 6th Belarusian People's Congress during the 7th Plenum of the BRSM Central Committee, First Secretary of the BRSM Central Committee Dmitry Voronyuk told BelTA.

“During the plenum that took place in the National House of Youth on 5 January, we elected delegates who will represent the interests of the Belarusian youth at the congress. We openly discussed every candidate and chose the most prominent people from various walks of life, some of whom are holders of state awards. We also tried to maintain the gender balance: 48.2% of our delegates are women and 51.8% are men,” Dmitry Voronyuk said.

The delegates from the BRSM Youth Union include students, young heads of enterprises, engineers, industrial workers, servicemen, pedagogues, athletes, and representatives of youth public institutions. “All in all, the BRSM elected 140 delegates to the Belarusian People's Congress. Out of them, 75.2% are workers of industrial and agricultural enterprises, public servants, servicemen of the Armed Forces, employees of agencies of the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs, rescuers, pedagogues, representatives of healthcare facilities and mass media outlets, and leaders of regional branches of the BRSM. Another 15.6% are undergraduate and postgraduate students, and students of secondary special education institutions. The remaining 9.2% are members of district councils of deputies, members of youth parliaments of various levels, and athletes. We also compiled a list of reserve delegates,” Dmitry Voronyuk noted.

Ahead of the Belarusian People's Congress, hundreds of discussions were held across the country, Dmitry Voronyuk stressed. “We discussed various topics: from the first job, working conditions, salaries, affordable housing, information and social technologies to bringing up true patriots of our country who will love Belarus, carefully uphold and develop its traditions and pass them on to their children and grandchildren,” he added.

The 6th Belarusian People's Congress will take place in Minsk on 11-12 February 2021. The main provisions of Belarus' social and economic development program for 2021-2025, as well as the trends of the country's social and political development will be discussed by the participants of the Congress. The total number of the participants and invitees will be 2,700 people.
